As for me, well . . .
Some books have easily identifiable symbols. THE HUNGER GAMES? A mockingjay. On a shoulder blade, maybe.
THE SKY ALWAYS HEARS ME AND THE HILLS DON'T MIND? Fortunes (from cookies, of course). Perhaps a fluttering one dashed around a wrist with a particularly profound and personal message. Such as, "BOO YA! PUB QUEEN, YO!"
JELLICOE ROAD? Why, Jonah Griggs's abs, don't you know.
But MY books? They simply don't have those neat and tidy symbols. LOVELY, DROWNING has . . . a pair of Jimmy Choos? WILL AND ZOE has . . . a car? THE RISEN has . . . art supplies? I don't know. Neither of those things makes an appropriately suitable tattoo for me.
Besides, not all images from all books make appropriately cool/sexy/SANE tattoos. Case in point:
OMG that's not the symbol I would have gone with. Also, these are not on SMEYER, these people didn't write TWILIGHT, so WHY STARS WHY?!?!?!
Also2, my faith in humanity??? Gone, baby, gone.
Please don't let these people breed.
So that nixes the pictoral route.
Instead, I'm left with words. Book titles, perhaps, or one favorite quote from each book in TEENY TINY print lined up along my shoulder blade? I don't know. I'm not averse to the idea of Book Name with Pub Date listed the way some people have their kids' names and birthdates listed.
Or maybe a cover art department would come up with something particularly amazing and create a symbol for my books that would translate to awesome tat material. Who knows? I'm not a tat person** though I can and do appreciate their beauty and meaning for the wearer.***
How about you? What tat would you get to celebrate a book? Head over to YA HIGHWAY to see what the other highwaywomen chose and add your own thoughts to the topic.
*NOT AN IDEAL SITUATION. Stranger artist + alcohol + impulse = poor tattoo decision-making.
** i.e. tat virgin
*** in most cases. other times i'm left with the impression that the human race has utterly failed. twi-toos, anyone?

OMG NO! Not more Twilight tats!!! *gouges eyes out with a spoon*
I love the words idea.
Though you could have a car with feet hanging out the window wearing a pair of Jimmy Choos and art supplies protruding from the back seat. Hey, just an idea. ;)
I definitely like the idea of words rather than images. Because images definitely are not always good.
The book name/pub date reminds me of how Angelina Jolie has the global coordinates of her children's birthplaces tattooed on her upper arm. That would be pretty cool.
I would say you could get the ISBN numbers of each of your books tattooed on you somewhere, but I am funny about tattooing numbers (esp. serial numbers) on one's body. Reminds me of the Holocaust. :/
I can't help but giggle at twi-toos.
Words can be beautiful tattoos...although when your 20th book is published...yikes.
W&Z... a map? Oh! The Vegas sign. Klassy.
jonah's abs. I very much LOLed.
OMG, the Twilight tattoos....why?
Name and pub-date might get crowded, once you are rich and famous and pop out a book or two a year! ;)
Also, AHHH the Twilight tats, they BURNSSSS.
I don't think you need to worry about these people breeding. They basically signed their own fate with these FULL COLOR edward tattoos. *shudder*
I love the idea of Book Name with Pub Date, but ditto what Ellen said ;)) I love the teeny-tiny print thing. Tattoos can be so pretty!
Or disturbing. Exhibit A, hahahaha
I love this idea that I won't have room for all my books, lol. Thanks.
Abby, I loved the ISBN idea until . . . yeah.
Sarah, lol. I WISH!
Jimmy Choos!! Come on. Get Jimmy Choos! I'll get one with you :)
Why why why why why would anyone get edward's face tattooed on their body???? I don't understand. The small print thing is a good idea -- it would make a cool anklet that looked like plain ink until you got close and saw that it was words!
So I actually have tattoos which are some favorite quotes of mine. I'm all about the words. :)
And - No none of them my tattoos are "And then the lion fell in love with the lamb." or anything else from Twilight :)
Jonas Grigg's abs. LOLOLOL. I could see a line of script from TC. Those art scenes ARE poetry.
Thanks, A.
Script is way cool. But thank goodness you clarified those thar quotes, Suz. That would be, after all, grounds for contract termination.
