This Week's Topic:
What's the best book you read this month?
MOCKINGJAY'S release day sort of crept up on me. I hadn't forgotten about it, but I've been so busy this summer that I hadn't thought about it much. But once the book showed up in my mailbox, I closed the bedroom door and isolated myself for a few hours while I eagerly tore through the story. I don't want to give any spoilers away, but I can say that I was surprised by the direction Collins took at first - the tension, the themes were quite different from previous books. I ended up loving this new, psychological aspect of the story. The characters in this book were as vivid as in others, maybe even more so. Triumphs and losses hit hard, creating an emotional roller-coaster for the reader. The book wasn't perfect (Katniss spent a bit too much time knocked out or asleep, methinks) but I still couldn't make myself put it down. By the time I'd turned the last page, my chest ached. An impressive story.

I loved the psychological aspect, too. (but agree about too much time knocked out/asleep/in a pit of despair).
Yeah, Katniss conveniently lost consciousness at extremely important parts of the book... My chest ached at the end, too. I was surprised at how dark and...weird...the book turned out to be. A bit of a letdown for me, but still a good book. I want to read it again.
Completely unrelated, but I see you have not tweeted in 7 days. Should we stage some kind of intervention? *packs bags for Seattle*
I loved Mockingjay too! I've recommended The Hunger Games trilogy to just about everyone I know. All three of those books blew me away.
I love your mini review on this! it made my chest hurt too and I felt shattered and breathless and quite feverish when I was reading it.
I think I'll have to re-read it to get everything out of it. I kinda charged through it like a maniac and I dont think it's all sunk in yet...
I agree that Katniss sort of missed the entire climax of the war by being asleep. That was really disappointing. But the rest of the book just blew me away. I'm still in post-Mockingjay recovery.
Yes, I too could have used a little less concussion and a little more bow-and-arrow badassery. But a freaking insane read for sure!
I agree. It IS really different from the first two. And there was a death that hit me hard. I'm no activist, but after reading MOCKIGNJAY, I felt like taking up a placard and joining an anti-war mission somewhere.
